The large
engine compartment is accessed from the hall with two large
doors. It provides unparalleled access to the engine in
addition to other equipment requiring regular maintenance.
The original engine has
been removed and replaced in 1997 by a new turbocharged Volvo
TMD 22a (80 HP), which is the same engine as the Perkins Prima
80T. While parts for the original Lehman engine were difficult
to obtain since the engine is no longer produced, service and
parts for the new engine are readily available both
locally and abroad. in most cases, the Perkins and Volvo parts
are interchangeable.

The generator is located on the opposite
side in its own insulated compartment. There is also an
additional hanging locker and additional enclosed storage.
The 5KW Northern Lights Generator was
completely rebuilt and new engine room insulation installed in
2003. It is a an extremely reliable unit with few hours on the
engine. There is an ample supply of spare parts aboard.
